Remember the screw up that was Monday’s Islanders game? Marc Staal couldn’t control his stick and we ended up going down 5-3. The Islanders scored twice and won the game.
Remember the screw up that was Friday’s Maple Leafs game? Marc Staal took an interference penalty- questionable to be called in OT, but still clearly late contact- and we ended up going down 5-4 in overtime. The Maple Leafs score and won the game.
Not for nothing Marc, but we’re done with your penalties that lead to GWG for the wrong team.
I know the Maple Leafs are hot right now, but if the Rangers just bothered to show for the second period of their home opener, they could have won that game. They couldn’t bother to show up for their *HOME OPENER.* I don’t even want to touch that one.
Hey! More similarities! Losing in front of their own fans is something that was shared by both the Maple Leafs and Islanders games. So was bad defense. So was not showing up. TERRIFIC.
Vinny Prospal is undergoing surgery on Tuesday and rumors are it could be season.
Chris Drury broke the same finger, only in a different place. LOL, who does that? Everyone keeps saying not to make fun of him because he can’t catch a break. LOL. All he does is break. That’s probably six weeks.
Marian Gaborik will be two-three weeks with a separated shoulder. That’s nothing to lol about.
But, thank the lord above, Erik Christensen will be ready to go on Monday!
…. I don’t even want to touch that one. XD
I also don't want to touch how bad the team was yesterday.
Don't get suspended, Avery.

Anyway, no one on this blog mentioned the amazingness that happened a week ago so….

Just to get this out in the open: You know I'm a huge Christensen fan, but I would have never hoped for THIS situation to arise and warrant his return to the lineup. I won't say we're screwed, but...we're screwed.
I know we're all depressed about this game, but how about Boyle's goals?? Way to go Brian! He wasn't even looking on that first one, lol. He was probably the most surprised of everyone that he had just scored. And did anyone notice his little "God nod" after going through the high-five line at the Rangers bench? I thought that was adorable.
Secondly, have I mentioned that I hate Sean Avery? No? Okay, well, surprise! I do. Whoever said he has never blatantly hurt someone is lying, because what was up with those slashes on Mike Komisarek? Not okay, Sean. Geez.
I'm probably/definitely missing the whole picture here because I only got to fastforward through the game just now, but I kinda just needed to vent. You know how it is, lol. ;)
I like Christensen enough for him to be in the lineup and obviously I have major sympathy for press-box dwellers so I'd hate to see it happen to a good guy like him, but UGH. It's like a slap in the face to hear, "... but Christensen will be ready to go on Monday."
"Whoever said he has never blatantly hurt someone is lying, because what was up with those slashes on Mike Komisarek?"
Besides 24 hours ago, when did he? Just curious. I'd be glad to retract those statements I've previously made, way before 24 hours ago, if you could give me a solid example.(Don't bother looking, because you won't be able to find one. =P)
Even though it was a dirty play I cannot and will never support, it's very, very minor compared to the serious crap that goes on out there all of the time. Cammalleri got one game- ONE- for slashing the stick at someone's FACE. I can't remember the exact count, but there are like 12-15 players already out in the NHL from concussion symptoms and it's game three? Four, maybe? Come onnn. There is major media- and fan- bias against Avery.
Not to mention, did you notice that no ref saw the call on Avery? Sam made it seem like the linesman saw it, but they allowed Avery to sit on the bench and then they dragged him over to go to the box after they spoke to Komisarek- who was laughing the next shift and skating fine, so clearly he played up the injury, anyway. The point being that *Avery rules,* well, rules, and exceptions are made solely for him.
Could I also point out that Avery had a huge game and was voted the third star of the game even though he was on the losing team? He also challenged Armstrong after the hit on Gaborik that took him out of the game. The part I'm most disappointed about it that Avery stooped so low when clearly he didn't have to. He was playing his game and kicking ass doing so. He didn't need to do what he did to be his normal effective self.
-This is coming from a girl who wears a Habs Komisarek shirt on a weekly basis. (Long Islanders FTW!) Habs fans might hate me for that though. Meh, lol.
Wait wait, Kerri. Let's all take time to reflect on the last Rangers/Canadiens game of the 2009-2010 season. I do believe some douchebag named Sean Avery slashed the ankles of the amazing angel named Scott Gomez. So that's taking his annoying agitator role to the physical level, which was obviously before this incident. But BEFORE that, yeah, I loved that I could say, "Oh yeah, well, Avery has never HURT anyone!" in any Sean Avery argument. Kind of hard now. And in that sense, I'm really kind of pissed off at Avery so I'm on Allyson's side when it comes to the emotions of this event.
But yeah, Kerri, I do agree that the Avery Rules are completely and totally unfair. Even though he absolutely deserved a penalty for said action, the fact that it went unseen and only got called because he got tattled on is asinine! That would NOT fly if it was anybody but Sean Avery. You can't just decide to call a penalty because a player comes up to you and tells you someone's been bad, boohoo. Come on!
...I am going to disagree about the Cammalleri stick-to-the-face incident. I don't actually believe he was trying to slash Niedereitter in the face. One, because he didn't actually do it. And two, it looked like he was waving his stick in his face in an attempt to piss the guy off sufficiently to battle it out with the guy. Which obviously didn't work, but I still don't believe he was trying to whack the guy in the head. Then again, maybe I need to see the video again. Either way, still a dangerous move and he still deserved to be suspended, but the fact of the matter is what actually occurred was he slashed the guys legs.
...And I think what sealed my anger toward Avery was that he didn't seem to think one nasty slash was enough. He had to do it twice; even worse the second time. Yes, yes, and I realize I say this all with a picture of Sean Avery next to my name, lol.
But while we're on the topic of unfair suspensions (or non-suspensions) and Cammalleri, I'm going to say again that I think it's absolute bullshit that no review was done of Niedereitter's elbow to Cammy's head. Like you said, there are so many players out with concussions...that could have been BAD if Cammy didn't see it at the very last second. He clearly got his elbow up and Cammy was lucky that he evaded it just in time.
I agree with you on that last point, Kerri-- I'm mostly upset that Avery stooped so low. I recognize the ridiculous league-wide bias against him (they really only called the penalty after SPEAKING to Komisarek? I agree, Kristen, that's insane!), and I *am* frustrated by that. But Avery's on his game when he's the one eliciting that type of response from the other team, when he's the one jabbering, when he's the one goading the other player into taking a penalty. Slashing at somebody's ankles is a bit different than slashing someone in the face (I can't really comment on the Niederreiter incident because I haven't seen it), but the general intent is the same. And if this was about Komisarek's hit on Gaborik, well, there are other ways to defend your teammate.
Not only that he did it twice, Kristen, but that he did it specifically when the refs weren't looking! I usually treat every word the Hockey Rodent writes as divine, but it really disturbed me that he said Avery was "clever" for waiting until the refs turned their backs to slash Komisarek. That's disgusting.
Gahhh. I'm just angry and it's easy for me to take it out on Avery. XD
Apples and oranges, my friends. You're mixing apples with oranges.
Certainly neither of you are trying to present the case that Avery only uses verbal or emotional abuse to elicit poor behavior from players on other teams, right? Because we need to knock that little piece off right away- Avery uses both physical and verbal tactics to agitate his opponents. Great example is the tap onto the back of the head of Thomas (when the refs weren't looking) or when Avery bumps into Brodeur. There can be no disagreement that physicality is as much as a part of Avery's agitation as his nasty little quips.
Anything Kristen says regarding Gomez has to be taken with a grain of salt. =P Sorry Kristen. You stare at him every time he gets on the ice and take offense to every bump that gets thrown his way. Don't tell me you don't, because I *know* you love your Scotty like I love my Petr. But I'm not going to hate Vinny Prospal for tackling him in the Coyotes/Rangers game last year.
You can't mix up intent to injure with slashing calls. It's *very* different. And I remember that slash on Gomez- certainly it was a slash, but it didn't warrant a 5 minute major. What did Avery merit for Komisarek's slash? 4 minutes, a double minor, because it was clearly after the whistle and intentional. But that's all. Avery was angry about something and overreacted- exactly what other players do to him, by his own doing, every single night.
Did you notice Komisarek slashed him back later in the game? It wasn't as brutal, but Avery's clutched his arm after the play. He takes the beating right back for the good of the team. That's why I admire him- yes, I said it, I admire him. I don't admire how he went about it last night, but I admire his craftiness, his speed, his quick thinking. He's literally a show in his own right, but it also greatly benefits his team.
Additionally, if you think the slashing of Gomez is the first time Avery has ever slashed someone, you're wrong. Also, if you think Gomez has never slashed someone, you're wrong. And if you think Petr Prucha didn't intentionally elbow someone in Prague, you're right, because Prucha is a precious angel sent from heaven who would never do that kind of thing.
... or, even my banished favorite smiley ex-Ranger can have a mean streak when annoyed, pissed off, or losing.
The slash on Komisarek was mean. It wasn't right. It was stupid. But it wasn't evil. This isn't Chris Simon bullshit. This is stuff that happens often in games and it's being made a big deal about it because it's Avery and because Mike Komisarek played it up. Just the fact that he wasn't suspended by a league that waits on baited breath for him to screw up should prove that.
And Allyson, it's very idealistic of you to think that every player doesn't have one eye on the puck and one eye on the ref. Because they all do. And they intentionally try to get away with things. Every single one of them.
If you don't like how Avery uses questionable tactics to annoy other teams, I can respect that. I totally disagree with you in every sense imaginable, but I can respect it. But I don't respect double standards, and Avery's an F-ing angel on the ice compared to some of the assholes who are out there to hurt people.
I agree with you for the most part. But simple bumps and taps don't equal slashes in my opinion. A slash is a punishable offense whereas an extra bump after the whistle isn't going to warrant a penalty. So when he takes it there, it gets annoying. And yes, of course I know he has slashed people before, and I know Gomez has too. But I think there's a difference between what he's done in the past/what other players do on a normal basis and what he did last night. Like Allyson pointed out, he waited until nobody was looking and not once, but twice slashed Komisarek pretty hard on the legs. It seemed less of an, "I'm angry b/c you pissed me off," slash and more of an intent to injure...and then take into consideration their history and I'm probably right considering Komisarek was banging Elisha Cuthbert, too :p
Lol, and believe me, I'm the first one to agree that you need to take my Gomez arguments with a grain of salt. But I think what he did to Gomez pissed me off as much as what he did last night so that's why I brought it up. It was totally unnecessary and that certainly was not even coming from a place where Gomez could have pissed him off at all. They were hardly on the ice at the same time and it was at the end of the game, less than a minute left. He was just being a complete prick for the sake of being a complete prick. There was no game to save and no reason to go after anyone, especially GOMEZ!
Basically what I'm getting at is there was no need for either of these slashes. And I think that's when I get mad at him: when he crosses the line for absolutely no reason at all. When he's yapping and being annoying while the game is going on and he has the chance to get guys off of their game, yes, I love it 100%. When he's hurting players or being a douche at the very end of games when the outcome has pretty much been determined, it's unnecessary and it pisses me off. He so often walks the line, which is fine, but he crosses it a lot, too.
But I don't think we can use the league's disciplinary system as a measurement of whether Avery's slash was fine or not. They get it wrong all too often. And yes, they try to get Avery as much as they possibly can, but I really don't think they know what they're doing and they're not consistent with any of the decisions they make.
Lol, I don't know what Blogspot is doing to me but it keeps telling me my comments are too long and then I so conveniently split them up and they post, but then it ends up posting the original comment anyway. Come on! Don't do this to me, you a-hole.
I agree that Avery should not have slashed Komisarek. It could have got him ejected from the game and would have cost The Rangers who were already two players down.
That said. I don't think it was dangerous and I think Komisarek is a looser for rolling around on the ice like that. As someone who plays hockey (very badly for the record) I have the equipment that players have. I have the skates and the shin pads. (The shin pads protect both the back and front of your legs). There is absolutely no way Komisarek was going to be injured.
A stick to the skate would barely register. It was stupid, but it was not dangerous.
Luke
Ahh, hi! I almost forgot about you.
Okay, I'll take your word for it that there was no chance of Komisarek being injured. My disgust still stands, though. And BELIEVE ME, I can't stand Komisarek and this goes back to his Montreal days. Kerri can tell you. So this really is pretty unbiased disgust at Sean Avery that I'm feeling here. Yeah, when he did it to Scott Gomez, that was like a personal insult to me (lolol), but this just aggravates me. I'd rather he stay within the rules of the game because sitting in the penalty box helps no one (right, Marc Staal?!). He's so much more effective where he's needed: on the ice, PLAYING hockey, and running his mouth. To me, it just went further than a cranky slash that every player is occasionally guilty of.
Hey Kristen,
"I'd rather he stay within the rules of the game because sitting in the penalty box helps no one" Agreed! People need to step up in a big way over the next few weeks. It's a little hard to step up from the penalty box...
So you people are back, eh? And with a new "Allyson" character! Fascinating! I can't wait to see what happens next.
And yes, fear not, I am back too. I know you were all eagerly awaiting my return.
Liking Avery, okay... fine... but KOMISAREK?! I hope I'm misinterpreting.
Luke? Shan? Hey guys, it's not 2008 anymore!
Komisarek is a long island native. We love him for life.
